Healthy Broccoli Recipes for Runners

Because of its fiber content, I wouldn’t recommend eating a lot of broccoli too soon before a run. However, this is just one of the many highlights of broccoli that I love: it keeps bowel movements regular.

Also, if you experience GI problems when running, incorporating more broccoli in your diet can certainly help with this as eating 3 cups of broccoli per week was found to fight health-harming intestinal yeast cells. Too much yeast cells in your gut is also linked to ongoing fatigue, so by eating more broccoli you’ll have more energy to run!

Another bonus of broccoli is that it contains folic acid, sulforaphane and a brew of vitamins that not only protect the brain from age-related damage, but improves mood by energizing your brain cells and increases the production of dopamine, the ‘feel-good-happy’ hormone, according to Elizabeth Some, R.D author of Eat Your Way to Happiness.

If you don’t like broccoli, I promise these healthy broccoli recipes will help make broccoli become more flavorful and enjoyable! Another thing I like about these recipes is that they are really easy. If I can make these, so can you!

Heel Strike vs Forefoot Strike

Bretta Riches

"I believe the forefoot strike is the engine of endurance running..."

BSc Neurobiology; MSc Biomechanics candidate, ultra minimalist runner & founder of RunForefoot. I was a heel striker, always injured. I was inspired by the great Tirunesh Dibaba to try forefoot running. Now, I'm injury free. This is why I launched Run Forefoot, to advocate the health & performance benefits of forefoot running and to raise awareness on the dangers of heel striking, because the world needs to know.

P.S. Don't forget to check out the Run Forefoot Facebook Page, it's a terrific place to ask questions about forefoot running, barefoot running and injury. I'm always happy to help!
