Are Cushioned Running Shoes Bad for You?

In turns out that there’s a big difference in underfoot pressure distribution and intensity between runners who run barefoot or in barefoot running shoes vs runners who run in thickly cushioned running shoes. Research has found that the softer and thicker the underfoot cushioning in a shoe, the greater the peak underfoot pressures at the touchdown and stance phases of running, potentially putting more fracture-inducing stress on the foot. Read more here about how thickly cushioned running shoes increases your risk of a foot fracture.

"I believe the forefoot strike is the engine of endurance running..."

BSc Neurobiology; MSc Biomechanics candidate, ultra minimalist runner & founder of RunForefoot. I was a heel striker, always injured. I was inspired by the great Tirunesh Dibaba to try forefoot running. Now, I'm injury free. This is why I launched Run Forefoot, to advocate the health & performance benefits of forefoot running and to raise awareness on the dangers of heel striking, because the world needs to know.
