Research over the last decade has confirmed and re-affirmed that what you wear on your feet can either suppress or stimulate good form when running. For instance, running in shoes with a flatter heel, or even better, running barefoot was found to prevent heel injuries by discouraging a hard-hitting heel strike and encourages a forefoot strike landing, which was found to best spread impact pressure over the foot, since it results in a larger surface area of contact, providing more surface to evenly spread impact on as compared with heel strike running.
