One of the many reasons heel strike running is unsafe and inefficient is by engaging a significantly higher degree of rigidity in foot-placement at landing, which not only increases surface forces, over-striding, over-pronation and brake loads, it also prevents the arch from loading more energy-saving elastic power required for keeping muscle costs low.
