Is Forefoot Running Better for Your Feet? YES!

Unlike heel strike running, foot injuries are much less likely in forefoot running because for one, the foot-rollover phase is eliminated, thus the foot is not used aggressively to thrust the body forward at each step. More specifically, landing with a forefoot strike has a positive cascading effect on your entire running form such that it allows your knee to bend at landing, which enables the foot to land closer to your center mass, which also causes your upper body to lean slightly forward. The important advantages of all this is it significantly cuts down on the brake rate and eliminates the compressive forces responsible for bony fractures in the foot and runners knees. "I believe the forefoot strike is the engine of endurance running..."

BSc Neurobiology; MSc Biomechanics candidate, ultra minimalist runner & founder of RunForefoot. I was a heel striker, always injured. I was inspired by the great Tirunesh Dibaba to try forefoot running. Now, I'm injury free. This is why I launched Run Forefoot, to advocate the health & performance benefits of forefoot running and to raise awareness on the dangers of heel striking, because the world needs to know.
