Barefoot Running Benefits: Better Proprioception

Barefoot Running Benefits: Better Proprioception

One of the many benefits of barefoot running is that it has proven to significantly reduce braking impact and joint loads on account of more optimal plantar (underfoot) proprioception (the awareness of joint and limb position and the forces acting on them). In this capacity, the nervous systems impact-moderating reflexes get switched on more fully and not to mention that pressure and pain-sensitive plantar nerve function are more likely found in these runners as compared with runners who run in thickly cushioned running shoes. Read more here about how barefoot running can immediately reign in your worst mechanical impulses via improved proprioception.

"I believe the forefoot strike is the engine of endurance running..."

BSc Neurobiology; MSc Biomechanics candidate, ultra minimalist runner & founder of RunForefoot. I was a heel striker, always injured. I was inspired by the great Tirunesh Dibaba to try forefoot running. Now, I'm injury free. This is why I launched Run Forefoot, to advocate the health & performance benefits of forefoot running and to raise awareness on the dangers of heel striking, because the world needs to know.
