Humans evolved to run barefoot, therefore we needed to evolve optimal mechanical defenses against  injurious impacts in the absence of underfoot cushioning! This is why we evolved to land with a forefoot strike NOT a heel strike! Heel striking when running is unnatural and will get you no where but hurt, and hating running!
