Unlike heel strike running, forefoot running is efficiency-enhancing by enhancing the stretch-shortening mechanism of the Achilles tendon. It also maximizes the contribution of elastic energy exchange in the foot’s arch relative to the total work, which in turn, enables the muscles to perform less mechanical work, and therefore, expend less metabolic energy!
