Correct Running Foot Strike: Why Forefoot Strike Over Heel Strike

In forefoot running, initial contact is made on the balls of the foot (never high up on the toes) then the heel drops down to the ground. The reason this is the most functional way to use your feet while running is its a smoother motion of the foot with far less impact on the shins, knees, hips and lower back! In addition, landing forefoot-first while running directly leads to more energy-saving elastic energy stored in the elastic structures in the lower leg. The value of this is it significantly reduces the amount of muscular effort it takes to keep the body pushing forward as compared with heel strike running, which is proven to be the most forceful way to run.
