Is Forefoot Running Faster Than Heel Strike Running?

One way forefoot running is faster than heel strike running is its more economical because it enhances the spring-energy properties of the Achilles tendon which reduces mechanical demands from the muscles. This economical effect is not nearly as effective when landing heel-first when running because more impact loads through the Achilles and the tendon is stretched out too much at landing.
