Heel strike running is well on record for being the most injurious way to run as compared with forefoot running. For instance, heel strike running is most damaging to the heel pad, despite wearing a running shoe with excessive padding under the heel. This is because the heel lands too far ahead of the mass of the body which was found to increase the rate of sudden deceleration that also generates a collision force and a shock-wave that breaks down all the elements of the heel pad.
