There’s a long list of reasons its bad to heel strike when running. The main reason is heel striking when running always produces a specific stress wave, which is a by-product of the body-collision force that occurs at heel strike; this force associated with MOST running injuries as compared with forefoot running, which was found to reverse and dramatically reduce these impact forces. Also, the ankle and knee works too hard to try and stabilize the heel at heel strike, while bearing the brunt of too many negative forces at work, which again, a lot of ankle and knee injuries stem from.
