Heel Strike Running Causes Femur Fracture. Forefoot Running Does Not

Heel strike running by its very nature produces a number of impacts that the body and thick cushioned running shoes cannot absolutely absorb. The reason for this is landing heel-first when running shifts the distance between the upper body and initial foot strike position, causing the upper body to lag too far behind at each step. In consequence, the body comes to a crashing halt for an unusually prolonged period of time, and the accompanying burst in collisional force was found to be the main cause of long bone fractures, such as shin and femur fracture. Conversely, there’s significant evidence showing forefoot running suppresses these high impacts. Read more here!
