One of the many reasons forefoot running is more economical than heel strike running is because the muscles were found to perform significantly less work in absorbing impact. This is because when you land on your forefoot, your knee will slightly bend and flex upon and at landing to reduce the over-stride angle. In this way, the muscles do not have to use up much energy to absorb impact because there is no excessive impact, since there’s no over-striding which is the main cause of a high brake impact responsible for nearly all injuries.
