Forefoot running works best for preventing knee injuries than heel strike running which is the leading cause of running injury. This is because a natural accompanist of heel strike running is a brake force that exceeds a certain threshold which weighs heavily on the knee. In this condition, cushioned running shoes were found to be an imperfect solution because the brake force became chronically higher with increased underfoot cushioning. This means that the more cushioning a running shoe has, the harder the heel strike, the greater the impact. All of this is fundamentally reversed in forefoot running. Here’s why!
