Heel strike running increases ground contact time, letting more bad things to occur.
Heel strike running produces a large ground reaction force because of 2 impact peaks which are not produced in a forefoot strike.
After the heel strike transient is generated, it converts into a vertical shockwave that channels through the body to the head. Because of it’s high magnitude, the heel strike transient is assumed to be the underlying cause of most running injuries.
Ground contact is longer in heel strike running than forefoot running because of 2 factors: 1. a posterior position of the center mass at foot strike and 2. foot rollover causes the foot to spend more time on the ground.
